Representatives Not Coming to Northwest Ohio

As our representative in the US Congress prepared for their summer breaks, I called their offices to see when they would be traveling to northwest Ohio. I was interested in attending their public meetings, hoping to learn more about the proposed health care changes, and maybe ask some questions.

Imagaine my surprise when I found out that NONE of them are planning a trip to northwest Ohio. Of course, the August break is often billed as a time for the representives to get back to their home states and get in touch with their constituents. Apparently, the constituents of NW Ohio are worthy of such a connection.

The office of Sherrod Brown (D) repeatedly stated that his travel plans were not yet formed -- even the very same day he made public appearances in 3 other locations. In addition, Mr. Brown does not even have an office in NW Ohio. His closest office is one of two in the Cleveland area.

The office of George Voinivich (R) stated that he does not conduct public twon hall meetings, but does have a representative that travels the state for him. According to the office, this representative tries to make it to each county in the state throughout the year. Mr. Voinivich's closest office is Toledo.

The office of Bob Latta (R) said that he has no public town hall meetings planned during break, but will continue with his regular town teleconferences. Mr. Latta maintains an office in Defiance.

I wonder how well the people of Northwest Ohio are being represented in Washington. And I am shocked that a county with the second highest unemployment rate in the state is not being visited by the same people proclaiming to be in touch with their constituents.

Election day may seem far away, but please reflect when that day comes how the incumbent congressmen serve you. Personally, I am disappointed by their showing.

ah yes. just what we need, "militia" talk. We are a union of 50 states. A war was fought 140 years ago to preserve the union. Don't like it.........change it by putting different representatives in Congress and in the White House.

The battle over states rights was won and lost 140 years ago. We have a centralized Federal government now. If you don't like it, change it. But veiled threats of militia action is laughable.

There is nothing wrong with the White House trying to correct the lies being told about health care reform.

Lies like death panels, unplugging grandma, 100 million people losing health care........often repeated by the same people who continue to clamor over Obama's birth, socialism, etc.

I had a person to congressman meeting with Representative Robert Latta last week at his Defiance Office. I had to request this meeting in advance. I found Mr. Latta to be quite reactive to my concerns. I thanked him for being my representative. I am thankful for someone like him for representing me. You can go to his web blog and post a comment at:

I see "states rights" and amendments to the constitution as a possible remedy to the attitude and actions of the fools in congress. The states have a "militia" to back up their demands. We the people need to work through our state government to address our grievances. We are far too lax in that regard. The fools in the US government have no fear and no shame.
When a legally trained president knowingly condones possibly illegal actions by the White House, there's something drastically wrong. They requested that "informants" email the White House with "fishy" information about the "health care" legislation. We should try to correct the situation through our state government, proposing amendments to the constitution.
We should enumerate the rights reserved to the states; for one thing. Health care and climate change should be states rights.
States should consider what can be done about earmarks and wasteful spending by the Federal Government.
