Auxiliary to welcome Girls Stater to speak

JEWELL -- Jewell Legion Auxiliary Post 635 met recently in the Jewell Community Center with nine members present.

All repeated the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary and treasurer's reports were read and approved. Rosalie Harris, Americanism chairman, reported she sent $250 worth of coupons to military service families. More will be sent in the fall. It was reported that 120 lunches were served at the Memorial Day celebration and parade. Poppy chairman, Lois Oberhaus, thanked all who helped sell poppies. Money collected from the sale goes to support VA hospitals, etc.

A Texas Hold'em fund-raiser will be held July 17 in the Jewell Community Center. Profit from this event will go toward the 1812 monument that will be erected at Independence State Park in 2010 in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives there.

BGS rep, Ashley Meyer, will speak at the July meeting and will report on her week there.

Lora Schafer, historian, presented her report for 2008-09.

Cheryl LeVeck gave a contest for Elissa LeVeck. Bonnie Karzynow served lunch.

The meeting concluded with Ashley Martin in charge of card bingo.
