ARCHBOLD -- It took two final matches and four extra questions, but Lockport 1 was crowned the Northwest Ohio Bible Quiz tournament champion Sunday at Central Mennonite Church, rural Archbold.

Lockport worked its way back through the losers' bracket with three wins, including a 95-70 come-from-behind victory over The Big Inning from Central, who finished in third place.

Lockport then faced Endures, from Sand Ridge, rural West Unity, who had come through the winners' bracket with four wins. In the first of two final matches, Lockport went up 90-40 on a Luke Graber team bonus score. Sand Ridge scored on the final four questions, but Lockport prevailed 90-85, setting up the deciding match for the double-elimination tournament.

In the final match, Lockport's Eliot Nofziger quizzed out on the final question, tying the score 75-75, and sending the match into a three-question overtime. After these three questions, the score was still tied, putting the match into a one question sudden death.

Quizmaster Jason Mansfield began the final question, "What were completed..." when Lockport's Seth Nofziger buzzed in to answer, "The heavens and earth in all their vast array," giving Lockport the winning score and the tournament championship.

Lockport's team members are Eliot and Seth Nofziger, Kristi Frank, Wesley Short and Luke Graber. Endures from Sand Ridge, the second place team, is comprised of Collin, Whitney and Alexis Stamm, McKenna Rash, April and Melissa Short.

The third place team, The Big Inning, is comprised of Caleb McQuillin, John and Paul and Luke Schoenhals, Alex Bilen and London Smith.

For the last four months, quizzers have been studying Genesis 1-30 to prepare for the annual multi-state tournament hosted this year by Northwest Ohio Bible Quiz League. The event, slated for Saturday and Sunday at Archbold High School, includes two other Ohio areas along with teams from Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The quizzing day starts Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with the final matches at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday morning worship service, including the final quiz matches, will be held in the Archbold High School gym at 9 a.m. Sunday.
