Esther Stevens

NAPOLEON -- Esther Lena Stevens, 87, of Napoleon, Ohio, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Henry County Hospital.

She was born April 12, 1922, in Deshler, Ohio, the daughter of Fred E. and Clara (Moore) Engler. On September 22, 1940, she married Donald Riley Stevens and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. She was a retired ARA cafeteria employee for the Campbell Soup Co. of Napoleon. She was a member of the Napoleon First Presbyterian Church, its women's association and Bible study group. She was an auxiliary member of the Napoleon Fire Department and a member of the Ladies of the Elks Lodge 929 and the Henry County Democratic Women. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a 1940 graduate of Napoleon High School.

Surviving are one son, James (Tracy) Stevens, Napoleon, Ohio; two daughters, Barbara (Walter) Amspoker of Findlay, Ohio, and Carol (Eugene) Detmer, Napoleon, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death also by one brother, Arthur Engler; and two sisters, Marie and Lucille Mae Engler.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gavin A. Pitt Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
