Thomas Kieffer MELROSE -- Thomas Joseph Kieffer, 73, Melrose, Ohio, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, in his home in Melrose. He had lived for three years in Melrose and was formerly of Defiance, Ohio. He was born March 21, 1936, in Duquesne, Pa., the son of Alvin and Bertha (Kremmel) Kieffer. He was a forklift operator for Defiance Metal Products and also worked for Frey Office Supply, State Bank & Trust Company, Zachrich Trucking, Freightway Trucking and Gene Oelke Trucking. He was a 1953 graduate of McKeesport High School, McKeesport, Pa., and a member of Defiance Elks Lodge 147 and Oakwood Library Association. Tom loved his two daughters and grandchildren. He loved watching movies, talking to people and telling stories. Surviving are two daughters, Phylis (John) Behringer of Defiance, Ohio, and Shelly (Eric) Roughton, Paulding, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brianne Behringer and Savannah, Kaity and Sam Roughton; and a brother, David Kieffer, Sherwood, Ohio. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Gert Bertok; and seven brothers, Alvin, Vincent, Regis "Slim," Leonard "Bud," Jerome, Edward and John George Kieffer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Janet Strickland and Deacon Don Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance County. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
