Roger Goodwin Roger V. Goodwin, 84, Defiance, Ohio, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center, Defiance. He was born July 30, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Walter A. and Madelena (Hay) Goodwin. In 1946, he married Ruby N. Miller, who died in 2002. He was co-owner of Goodwin Painting from 1965-2000, and a U.S. Army Air Corps sergeant, serving during World War II in the Pacific Campaign. He was a life member of Defiance VFW Post 3360 and Defiance Eagles Aerie 372 and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Surviving are two sons, Bruce (Marlene) Goodwin of Defiance and Randall Goodwin, Temperance, Mich.; a daughter, Rogette (Dwight) Hector, Ellettsville, Ind.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Virgil Goodwin, Defiance; two sisters, Sandra "Sue" Mansfield of Sherwood, Ohio, and Violet Reynolds, Defiance; and a special friend, Loretta Miner, Defiance. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruby N. Goodwin; his parents; two brothers, Robert and Joseph Goodwin; and two sisters, Marcella Dockery and Patsy Goodwin. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3360. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
