COLUMBUS GROVE -- Two people died Saturday in a trailer fire that occurred on North Main Street in Columbus Grove, village Police Chief Charles Huff said in a news release.

The fire was reported at 2 a.m. Saturday when the Putnam County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call. The two victims, whose names were not released, were females, one in her mid-20s and one in her mid-60s.

Three other persons escaped the fire, which was located near the grain elevator in the center of town, according to Huff. One male who escaped was near 20 years of age and another male and female who were not injured were near 40 years of age.

Flames were showing in the trailer as law enforcement arrived at the scene, and fire was coming out of windows on the south side of the structure. The two people who died inside the structure were found after the fire was contained.

The fire remains under investigation by the Ohio Fire Marshall's Office, the Putnam County Coroner and Columbus Grove police and fire departments.
