PAULDING -- Tax issues will be a big part of the ballot in Paulding County on Nov. 3. A total of 19 issues will be decided by voters, including five countywide proposals. The county is seeking an additional five-year, 4-mill levy for current expenses. If passed, the revenues will be used to fund county operations, and some of the monies will be earmarked for the county soil and water conservation district. The levy is expected to raise $1,202,359 annually. According to the county auditor's office, the levy would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $140 a year. Last November, a 2.5-mill, five-year levy for general fund current expenses was defeated by a wide margin. The Paulding County Carnegie Library has a 2.17-mill, five-year levy for operating costs on the ballot. If passed, it would raise $650,000 a year for the library district. The levy will cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $75.95 per year, according to the auditor's office. In 2008, a library levy was defeated by around 600 votes. Paulding County's Ohio State University Extension Office will seek an additional .67-mill, five-year levy for current expenses. The levy would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $23.45 a year and would generate $200,000 annually for the office, according to the auditor's office. The county agricultural society has an additional .19-mill, five-year levy for purchasing, maintaining or improving the fairgrounds. The agriculture society levy would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $6.65 a year. The levy would raise $57,112 annually. The economic development office has placed an additional .19-mill, five-year levy for operation of the office or joint office of economic development purposes. It would raise approximately $56,000 annually, according to the auditor's office. The levy would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $6.65 a year. A new tax issue for one school district also will be determined by voters. The Vantage Career Center is seeking a 1.05-mill, 28-year bond issue to pay the local share of facilities construction and renovation under the Ohio Vocational Facilities Assistance Program. The proposal would raise $17,869,000. Other additional levies dotting ballots include a .6-mill, five-year levy in Cecil village for emergency medical services and a 1-mill, five-year levy in Crane Township for fire department equipment and buildings.
