By JACK PALMER Faith, hope and love in times like these. That's the theme of a three-night community revival which starts Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Paulding. Service time each night through Wednesday is 7 p.m. The church is located at 1040 W. Wayne St., across from Paulding County Hospital. Featured speaker is Dr. Tiberius Rata, a native of Romania and professor of Old Testament studies at Grace Theological Seminary, Winona Lake, Ind. His topics are "Awesome Faithful Four" (Monday), "From Hopelessness to Hopefulness" (Tuesday) and "An Awesome Loving Father" (Wednesday). Praise and worship leaders are Vern and Martie Kindinger from Defiance. He has directed music for over 30 years for the Defiance Area Youth for Christ New Life Singers and many church and community choirs. She is an accomplished church organist and accompanist who has played for hundreds of special church events. "Vern and I are looking forwarding meeting new friends and getting reacquainted with old friends," said Martie Kindinger, who also serves as office administrator for the Defiance Area Youth for Christ. Special nightly guests include "Harmonica John" Wistner (Monday), Tom Coy (Tuesday) and former Paulding and Ayersville High School baseball coach Jim Leininger (Wednesday youth night). Leininger has spent much of his life passing on his knowledge of America's pastime to youngsters in this area. Although he retired from coaching following the 2006 season, his passion for the game and serving God remains strong. He has spent the last two springs conducting a baseball ministry in Hungary through Operation Mobilisation, a global mission group. "I'm there because of two reasons," Leininger said in a C-N interview in June. "Number one, I love Jesus Christ and number two, I love baseball." He had planned to take his initial journey to Hungary in 2006, but was thrown a wicked curveball when his wife, Sharon, suffered a recurrence of cancer. She died that summer. "There's not a day that goes by when I don't miss my wife," said Leininger. "She was my best friend and I think about her all the time. But I can't sit around the house, that's for sure." Wednesday's youth night event includes valuable door prizes and a pizza bash following the service. Comments
