HOLIDAY CITY -- At the Northwest Ohio National Cancer Survivor Day, former CNN sportscaster Roger Cawthon will be the guest speaker. He will talk about his experiences with cancer. National Cancer Survivor Day will be held on Sunday, June 28, at the Ramada Inn, Montpelier/Holiday City, from 2-4 p.m. The event is open to the public. There will be appetizers, music and a chance for door prizes also that day. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the Cancer Assistance office 228 S. Main St., Bryan, or on the day of the event. Cawthon will speak about being diagnosed with cancer at the same time his wife was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. For the last 14 years, the original founders of Living with Cancer Support Group -- Sharon Farrell, Karen Bowling, Jean Geesey and the late Patricia Baden -- had organized and sponsored the day. This year, the Cancer Assistance of Williams County will be hosting the event. Nancy Johnson, executive director of Cancer Assistance of Williams County, said, "It is a privilege and honor to be following in these wonderful women's footsteps. They have done so much for cancer patients in northwest Ohio, with support, encouragement and understanding. Mrs. Farrell, Mrs. Bowling and Mrs. Geesey need to be honored in their contributions to our community. "They themselves are cancer survivors or have personally been affected with cancer in their family. They are strong and courageous women." Local artist Marge Bennett has donated her painting called "Compassion" as a silent auction item at the cancer survivor day event. The picture can be viewed at the One Stop Building in Bryan. Patricia (Pat) Leininger of Bryan will be honored at the event for her testimony of living with cancer and thriving. For more information about the event, call Cancer Assistance of Williams County at 419-636-0079. Comments
