America's leading supermarket industry publication has named Stephanie Skylar, Chief Super Market president and chief executive officer, one of Top Women in Grocery for 2009. Progressive Grocer magazine, sponsor of the award, recognizes women who are helping initiate change in the grocery industry. The executives selected have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their companies and in the industry at large and are deeply involved in the communities they serve. Skylar has worked for Chief since 1996 and was named president and CEO in 2007. Since taking the post, she has spearheaded a number of initiatives to help company associates gain the education and training needed for promotion to higher-level jobs, including the training program known as "Chief University." She also organized Chief Good Neighbor Day, helping Chief donate more than $35,000 to local food pantries this year. "Stephanie continues to utilize her significant talents to lead Chief to new heights. She is passionate about people and training, which is evident in the newly devised Chief University, our new customized training resource," said Eric Hench, Chief board chairman. "In an industry dominated by men, Stephanie has earned this recognition as an executive leader." Skylar has a bachelor of arts degree from Tulane University, a masters of business and organizational leadership from Defiance College and is scheduled to complete her MBA program in 2010, also from DC.
