Included in a recent meeting of the Defiance County Master Gardeners was the news that the bi-annual garden tour has been canceled for this year. Members were updated on the many activities the master gardeners are involved with this year. There are 16 new master gardeners who graduated in the class of 2009. Gardeners have been taking care of the flower beds in the community parks at the former railroad depot. Thirteen members helped pass out lilacs at the Defiance Lilac Festival this spring. The group's annual plant sale was a great success with 17 volunteers participating. Member Bette Mohr will be speaking at the Defiance County Senior Center on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. for the "Lunch and Learn" program. Guest speaker at the meeting was Mark Shininger, of "Marking Outdoors, Inc.," who showed slides of his trip to England and the beautiful English gardens The next meeting will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Tammy Bowers home.
