The Defiance County Library system will celebrate Teen Tech Week, March 8-14. The theme is "Press Play @ Your Library."

Teen Tech Week will be observed at the Defiance Public Library, Johnson Memorial Library in Hicksville and Sherwood Branch Library. All programs are free and open to middle school and high school students.

A journal-making night will be held at the Sherwood Branch Library on Monday, March 9, at 4 p.m.

All of the supplies and several patterns will be available.

At 4 p.m. March 9, Johnson Memorial Library will host "Magic: The Gathering," during which participants can play and challenge several opponents to this fantasy card game.

Also scheduled is "Press Play & Tune In" with WDFM's Rick Small at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Defiance Public Library. Small will share his radio experiences and suggest ways to get into radio and other communications careers.

At 6:30 p.m. March 10, students can learn sign language with Halie and Susan Gonwick at Johnson Memorial Library.

This program is sponsored by the Hicksville Community Service Center. The Gonwicks will be providing a basic overview of sign language and encourage all participants to learn a few letters and words.

On March 11 from 3-6:30 p.m., middle school and high school students will gather at Defiance Public Library for a teen journal-making day.

Youth services librarian Dustin Harris will walk them through the construction and journal binding process. All supplies will be provided by the library.

At 6:30 p.m. March 12, Johnson Memorial Library will host teen HIX-TV camera-taping training. Station manager Josh Graves will teach everyone how to use the camera and give an overview on editing.

Anyone interested in taping segments for HIX-TV or volunteering at the station is asked to attend this training.

At 4 p.m. March 13, guests can join gamers for a twice monthly fantasy role-playing game group at Johnson Memorial Library.

Librarian Dustin Harris facilitates the adventures, and refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Hicksville Library.
