Kalida, Continental to meet in district semis

OTTOVILLE -- The Kalida and Continental girls soccer teams will have a chance to take care of unfinished business from the regular season after both teams won their sectional final games on Saturday.

The two teams, which played to a 1-1 draw in the regular season on Oct. 11, will play in the district semifinals at 6 p.m on Wednesday at Ottoville.

Kalida ousted Ottoville 1-0 after the two teams went into a shootout where the Wildcats held a 4-2 advantage.

Kalida held a 15-3 edge in the shots-on-goal department but Erika Brinkman of Kalida (13-1-3) and Lauren Kramer (11-7) kept everything out of the net during regulation and sudden victory time.

In the nightcap, a second half goal by Sloane Zachrich proved to be the difference as the Pirates (12-3-2) knocked off Fort Jennings, 3-2.

Whitney Miller scored a goal on an assist from McKenna Scott and Kiana Warnement had a penalty kick goal to give Continental a 2-0 lead early in the first half but two Macy Schroeder goals made it a 2-2 tie by halftime.

Zachrich's goal to break the tie came with 26.08 left in the game.
