FINDLAY -- Henry Weisgerber fired a 80 at Red Hawk Run to tie for 14th place during Division I boys district golf action on Thursday.
Weisgerber had a 40 on both the front and back nines for an 80 on a tough course.
"Henry played well today," commented Defiance coach Steve Maxey. "Red Hawk Run is the toughest golf course we have seen all season. "An 80 on Red Hawk Run is a very respectable score. Out of 60 golfers he tied for 14th. I like the way Henry finished his round today. He birdied the par-5, 17th hole and he just barely missed a 5-foot birdie putt on the par-4, 18th hole that would have put him in the 70s.
"Henry has had a great career at Defiance. He and the other five seniors had a year to remember. They all will be missed. What a great group of young men, I am proud to have had the opportunity to coach them."
Defiance finished the 2011 season unbeaten in dual matches as well as going unbeaten in the regular season in the Western Buckeye League, while also capturing the WBL championship.
Fremont Ross (316), Findlay (317), Ashland (320) and Toledo St. John's (322) finished as the top four teams at districts to advance to the Division I state tournament at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course beginning Friday, Oct. 21.
Meanwhile, Dustin Lieber of Norwalk (72) and Brendan Aussem of Avon (74) advanced as individual to state after their performances at districts on Thursday.
