ANTWERP -- The Archbold boys cross country team won the Antwerp Invitational on Saturday with an overall team score of 45, while Fairview finished second and Ayersville took third. Cameron Strunk of Parkway placed first individually with a time of 17:09, while Kyle Thomas of Fairview took second and Sam Lehman of Tinora placed third.
In the girls meet, Tinora took top honors with a team score of 41, while Fairview finished second and Kalida took third. Individually, Jessica Doepker of Kalida finished first with a time of 19:55.

Men's soccer wins: The Defiance College men's soccer team won its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday. The Jackets traveled to Franklin and defeated the Grizzlies by a score of 3-1.
Evan Allen, Kevin Arriola and Joe Loftis scored for the Jackets.
Women's soccer falls: The Defiance College women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 defeat to Franklin College on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the team's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 1-2.
Katie Heitkamp scored DC's lone goal.
HCAC golf: DC's day-one score of 398 placed the Jackets in sixth position at the HCAC women's golf championships. Franklin's Brittany Stephens fired an 80 to edge Transylvania's Megan Foley by one stroke for the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Anderson's Lauren Flores (83), Hanover's Brooke McKay (84) and Franklin's Avery Brown (85) closed out the top-five spots in the standings.
Sarah Westfall paced Defiance with a 97 to end in a tie for 22nd.
Women's tennis loses: The Defiance College women's tennis team lost in its final Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match of the season to Hanover College on Saturday morning. The final score of the match was 9-0.

McDonagh is runner-up: Bryan's Erin McDonagh finished as the sectional runner-up after the semifinal and final rounds were played Saturday morning.
McDonagh opened the day by by defeating Samantha Carr of Wauseon, 6-0, 6-0. McDonagh then suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Drew Fillis of Ottawa Hills.
In doubles action, a pair of Napoleon doubles teams were in action. The team of Alayna Schlade and Liz Yarnell of Napoleon defeated Ottawa Hills in two sets in the semifinals but lost in two sets to Shivani Bhatt and Nancy Rumpf in the finals. The Ottawa Hills tandem also beat Napoleon's other doubles team of Addie Small and Rachel Niermann in the other semifinal.
