BOWLING GREEN -- The Defiance boys golf team shot a 344 during Division I sectional action at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green on Tuesday, but it missed out on advancing as a team. But, Henry Weisgerber's team-low 77 advanced the senior to districts as one of the top five individuals on a non-qualifying team.
"Henry played solid again today," stated Defiance coach Steve Maxey. "It's his first time making it to districts, which is great."
Jacob Behringer was next on the team with an 83, followed by Jacob Moore with a 90, Josh Scott a 94 and Tyler Batt with a 96 as the Bulldogs came in seventh behind Toledo St. John's (310), Findlay (310), Toledo St. Francis (321), Fremont Ross (321) and Sylvania Northview (324), which all advanced as a team to districts.
"The guys on the team are disappointed we didn't make it," Maxey said. "It was going to take our best golf today to make it to districts and we just didn't do that. This group of six seniors will be missed. They had an outstanding year and they set a lot of records that will be tough to break."
Weisgerber advanced to district action at Redhawk Golf Course in Findlay on Thursday, Oct. 13.
