Michigan man dies in Fulton County crash

DELTA -- A Michigan man was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at Ohio 109 and U.S. 20 in Fulton County's Royalton Township near here.

Dead is Andrew Emery, 22, of Adrian, Mich.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol's Toledo post, Emery was northbound on Ohio 109 near U.S. 20 at approximately 5:17 p.m. Monday when his vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign and struck the rear tandem axle of a commercial truck with an empty tank trailer driven by Robert Hightower Jr., 51, Toledo. The truck overturned off the roadway, according to the patrol.

Emery, who was wearing a safety belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol's press release. Hightower was not injured and was also wearing a safety belt.

The Ohio Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, Fulton County EMS, Swanton Fire and Rescue, Lyons Fire and Rescue, and Fulton County EMA.

The crash remains under investigation, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
