Its like running a household, or a business. At times, budget cuts must be made.
Since United Way of Defiance Countys 2003 campaign ended this year without meeting the $575,000 goal, the allocations committee was faced with rolling back anticipated allocations for some of its 41 agencies.
United Way leadership reported Tuesday that the campaign garnered about $70,000 less than the goal, but allocations will fall short by less than that. Monies designated toward the local United Way by individuals in other United Way areas totaled nearly $30,000, which will make up some of the difference and cut the shortfall to about $40,000.
We made allocations last spring, said the local United Ways executive director Barb Rogers. We tell the agencies then: If we achieve the campaign goal, this is what you will receive.
The allocations committee met Monday to adjust anticipated allocation figures.
