New Defiance Mayor Bob Armstrongs administration petitioned a U.S. congressman Monday morning for help in addressing several key issues.
Armstrong and his board of control (administrator Jeff Leonard, finance director Rebecca Snow and law director David Williams) met briefly with U.S. Fifth District Congressman Paul Gillmor, R-Old Fort, at the city service building. It was the first meeting Armstrong has had with Gillmor since taking office on Jan. 1.
Gillmors stop was the first of two in Defiance on Monday. He also visited Defiance College to discuss a federal grant for the institution.
His 15-minute discussion with city officials focused on three issues convincing Johns Manville to reconstruct its fire-damaged Columbus Avenue plant, securing funds for a city reservoir and obtaining federal help in dealing with an EPA mandate to eliminate more than 40 combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in Defiance.
