Rumors about Johns Manville put to rest by mayor

Reports that Johns Manville has made a final decision about the future of its Columbus Avenue plant in Defiance (severely damaged in a May 16, 2003), fire are untrue and the result of miscommunication between local government officials and Toledo news media, according to a local government official. Defiance Mayor Bob Armstrong said that in an interview with reporters from WTVG-TV, Channel 13, Toledo, Monday, he and finance director Jeff Leonard gave an update of what has happened at the plant in the months following the fire. Leonard mentioned that Johns Manville has a plant set up down south and are hiring people, said the mayor.
