In the three months hes been in Afghanistan, Defiance doctor Dr. Nathan Fogt has learned to keep off the grass.
Land mines are everywhere and account for a significant part of what we see, Fogt noted in a recent letter to his Defiance Clinic colleagues. The troops here have a saying, Dont walk on the grass in Afghanistan. If an area is not marked, we assume that area is mined.
The Russians were here fighting for 10 years and left behind millions of mines, explained Fogt. The Afghans themselves have planted millions more and no one knows where they all are.
