Mild spring weather kept temperatures comfortable on Sunday for participants of Defiance Colleges commencement exercise, as well as hundreds of friends and family members in attendance. Graduates totaling 226 were awarded associates, bachelors and masters degrees from president Dr. Gerald Wood on the lawn of the Pilgrim Library. They now join more than 8,000 DC alumni worldwide. Prior to the noon graduation ceremony, a 10:30 a.m. baccalaureate service was held in Karl H. Weaner Community Center. Poet b.f. maiz was on hand to give the meditation. The author, a 1994 recipient of the Wesleyan Peace and Justice Award, currently serves as a consultant to the vice president for academic affairs at University of North Texas.
