MCCLURE -- Walter E. Meech, 89, of McClure, Ohio, died peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Grand Rapids Care Center.
He was born October 5, 1923, in McClure to the late Clarence and Vada (Snyder) Meech. On April 22, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Bernadine (Sams) Meech.
Walter served in the United States Army during WWII. He crossed the English Channel the morning of D-Day and served in five major battles in France, Belgium, and Germany. He was awarded two purple hearts during his enlistment. He was proud member of the McClure American Legion and Grand Rapids VFW.
Walter worked at Derrow Motor Sales of Defiance and Franz Nursery of Napoleon.
Water is survived by his loving wife, Bernadine; daughter, Barbara Norwood of Sevierville, Tenn.; grandsons, Michael and David Norwood; and great grandchildren, Michael, Jr. and Nicholas; and brother-in-law, Dahrel Sams. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lester, and an infant sister, Barbara.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 1, at Rodenberger Funeral Home, McClure with visitation from noon till the time of service. Interment will follow at Hockman Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by McClure American Legion.
