DELTA -- Jack C. Sabel, 69, of Delta, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., on September 13, 1943, to the late Jack C. Strong and Martha Isabelle (Varner) Strong. Jack was a 1961 graduate of South Lyon High School in South Lyon, Mich. On April 16, 1965, he was united in marriage to Louella "Lou" Mae Phillips, and she survives. Jack was an active member of Plumbers Local 98 and began retirement in 1991. He was known as an avid car enthusiast and for his beloved collections of toys, especially toy cars. Jack was lovingly nicknamed "Crabby" by his great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his son, Shad René Sabel; and sister, Cynthia Sabel.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Louella "Lou" Sabel; daughter, Shelley (Kevin) Carpenter of Delta; stepfather, Frank Oswald of Northville, Mich.; brother, Frank "Sonny" (Kim) Oswald of Canton, Mich.; sister, Candace (Rodney) Ison of Cheboygan, Mich.; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Carpenter, Jenna (Matt) Tammarine, Samantha (Trent Gineman) Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Logan Carpenter, Lily Rankins, Blake and Vincent Tammarine; nieces; nephews; and very special friends.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy 109, Delta, Ohio 43515, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, with a service celebrating Jack's life beginning at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastors Steve Clymer and Don Ross will be officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the mausoleum chapel of White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Mich.
