NAPOLEON -- Norman H. "Whitey" Lange, 83, of Napoleon, Ohio, died peacefully Saturday, February 23, 2013, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
He was born November 30, 1929, in Henry County, Ohio, to Herman and Helen (Damman) Lange. On July 7, 1951, he married Lois (Fitzenreiter) Lange.
Norm was a Napoleon High School graduate and a lifelong hog and grain farmer. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 during the Korean War. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Okolona, and remained a member there throughout his life. He served the church as a deacon, trustee, elder, and was on the cemetery committee. Norm was a trustee of the Napoleon Township zoning board and an active member of the Ridgeville American Legion Post 454, the Korean War Veteran's Association and the Napoleon VFW Post.
Norm is survived by Lois, his loving wife of 62 years; and his children, Carla (Tom) Grogan of Columbus, Ohio, Susan (Bill) Garmyn of Defiance, Ohio, Dick (Diana) Lange of Napoleon, Ohio, and Lori (Ryan) Miller of Archbold, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Mike (Sunny) Lange, Jeff Grogan, Krista Lange, Erin Garmyn, Kelly Grogan, Lindsay Garmyn, Jon Garmyn, Megan Miller and Morgan Miller; and one great-grandson, Cooper Lange. He is also survived by sisters, Evelyn Benecke of Napoleon, Ohio, Margaret Bostelman of Deshler, Ohio, and Kathy (Ron) Wilkerson of Napoleon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eldon "Jake" Lange; and his sister, Marilyn Hoops.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Okolona. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Ridgeville American Legion. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Okolona.
The family asks that memorials be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Okolona, CHP Defiance Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
