BERNE, Ind. -- Rev. Willard Lentz Sanders passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013, at 2:03 p.m., at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.
He was born to A. Jay and Eugenia Lentz Sanders, on November 10, 1917, in Farmer, Ohio. He graduated from Ney (Ohio) High School, and was a truck driver for D and E Feed Mill. At age 33, he answered the call to the ministry and graduated from the seminary of Huntington College. During his ministry, he served congregations at the Corunna, Indiana; Hudson, Indiana; and Hillsdale, Michigan, United Brethren Churches.
He married Rachel E. Hanna on January 1, 1939, in Defiance, Ohio. They moved to Swiss Village in 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin (Patricia) Sanders, of McAllen, Texas, and Timothy (Terri) Sanders of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Suzanne Rowe of Angola, Indiana, and Geraldine "Geri" (Allen) Morrical of Portland, Indiana; 20 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, in 2010; their son, Dennis, in 1946; his parents and siblings.
Visitation is at the Swiss Village auditorium on Monday, Feb. 25, from 4-7 p.m. Services will be at the Hudson United Brethren Church in Hudson, Indiana, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio, at 2 p.m.
