Carl F. Gerken, 92, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Laurels of Defiance.
He was born on March 21, 1920, in Defiance County, to the late Herman and Wilomena (Spudholtz) Gerken. On June 14, 1941, he married Irma (Bostelman) Gerken, who preceded him in death on July 5, 2012.
Carl had worked for All Star Products in Defiance, Bil-Jax in Archbold and Archbold Container. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Okolona, and served in the United States Army during World War II. He will be remembered for his love of his garden, the Detroit Tigers and his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Bob) Nicely of Ayersville, Ohio; son, Robert (Sherri) Gerken of Greensboro, North Carolina; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Herman (Betty) Gerken of Ayersville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Betty Gerken of Troy, Ohio; and stepbrother, Mylo Gerken of Defiance.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Connie; grandson, Adam Gerken; brothers, William, Walter, Richard and Arnold Gerken.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Okolona. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Ridgeville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
