Alan 'Whitey' Salisbury

CONTINENTAL -- Alan F. "Whitey" Salisbury, 90, of Continental, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital.

He was born October 8, 1922, in Putnam County, to the late Floyd and Alta (Dunlap) Salisbury. On April 15, 1942, he married Leota Marie Strite, who died November 12, 2003.

He is survived by four children, Terry (Diane) Salisbury of Defiance, Donelda Prowant, Charlene Finch and Lisa (Mike) Hinkle, all of Continental; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren: seven great-stepgrandchildren; a great-great-stepgrandchild; a brother, Dale (Lavern) Salisbury of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sisters, Sandra (Ben) Smith of Leipsic and Eva Jane (Bill) Radabaugh of Ottawa; and two sisters-in-law, Velma Salisbury and Donna Salisbury.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Prowant; three brothers, Glen, Jerry and Paul Salisbury; and a sister-in-law, June Salisbury.

Whitey retired in 1985 as a millwright for General Motors in Defiance. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Continental. He attended Miller City High School. He was a friend to all and loved by many. Whitey will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 3, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, and from noon until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.
