McCLURE -- Joseph Clement Flowers, 89, of rural McClure, Ohio, died Tuesday morning, January 15, 2013 at Mission Regional Medical Center, Mission, Texas.
He was born June 10, 1923 in Richfield
Township, Henry County, Ohio to the late William Joseph and Hilda (Baker) Flowers. On February
12, 1947 he married Annabelle Gustwiller, together they had four children and she preceded him in death on May 17, 1978. He later married Jane Deblin and she preceded him in death in November 1986. On January 30, 1988 he married Carol (Damman) Richardson and she survives.
Joe was a 1941 graduate of McClure High School and lifetime farmer. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Custar, Ohio; and St. Paul Catholic Church, Mission, Texas. He was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1039, Defiance, Ohio; 3rd Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 1344, Napoleon, Ohio; and the Ohio Farmers Union. Joe loved his family, his farm and a good night of polka dancing. Since 1981 he enjoyed spending his winters in Mission, with many dear friends.
He is survived by wife, Carol; son, Thomas (Mary Jane) Flowers, McClure, Ohio; daughter, Nancy (Kenneth) Close, Christiansburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Eric (Carla) Flowers, Laura Flowers, Alan Flowers, Angie (Kurt) Bechstein, Kelley (Brian) Smith and Kenny Close; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan, Kaylee, Landen, Peyton and McKenzie; and sister, Joan Bauer, Rotonda, Florida.
He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Teresa Marie Flowers and Peggy Oltmanns; brother, Francis Flowers; and sister, Mary Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church with Fr. David Tscherne officiating. Burial will follow in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, where a Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will be present from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will also be from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday at the church.
