Gaylord 'Gabe' Parker

TACOMA, Wash. -- Gaylord "Gabe" Parker, 81, passed away on January 10, 2013 in Tacoma, Wash.

He was born on September 8, 1931, in Tontogany, Ohio, the son of Clarence and Olive Ruth (Hixson) Parker. He spent most of his childhood in Sherwood and went to Defiance College before enlisting in the Air Force for four years, he then went and served about another 30 years in the Air Force Reserves. Gabe served our country in the Korean War, Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He worked as a teacher in Washington State before retiring. Over the years, he enjoyed being in the Masons and playing golf. One of his proudest accomplishments was working at Rainier National Park in Washington.

Gabe is survived by a sister, Molly (John) Parker Barcellos of California; and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Satch Parker.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Cemetery.

I KNOW HE HAD A GOOD LIFE AND IS AT PEACE NOW. I ALWAYS HAVE WARM MEMORIES OF GOOD OLD SHERWOOD AND OUR CHILDHOOD. I CAN SEE YOUR MOM SMILING SETTING AT THE KITCHEN TABLE AND PLAYING SOLATAIR AND GABE WALKING BY THE HOUSE. I KNEW HE WAS OLDER, BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW MUCH. LOVE AND PRAYERS COMING YOUR WAY.
