Herbert 'Herbie' Miller

RIDGEVILLE CORNERS -- Herbert E. "Herbie" Miller, 85, of Ridgeville Corners, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

He was born on August 5, 1927, to Mary Miller in Defiance County, Ohio. He married Joan Rupp on June 28, 1952, and she survives. Also surviving him are his son, Brad (Melissa) Miller of Ridgeville Corners; daughters, Sandy (Randy Norden) Buchhop of Ridgeville Corners and Josette (Monte) Nofziger of Archbold; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Kosier of Ridgeville Corners.

He was preceded in death by his mother; daughter, Cindy Brenner; brother, Francis Miller; and one grandchild.

Herbert was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, and was also on the cemetery board. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Ridgeville Corners Ward L. Adams American Legion Post 454. Herbie was the owner and operater of Herb Miller Excavating in Ridgeville Corners. He was a member of the Ridgeville Volunteer Fire & Rescue, where he served as co-chief and assistant chief. Every morning he opened the 10 Pin Tap, where he cooked and served breakfast. He enjoyed collecting model cars.

Visitation will be held today, January 10, from 6-8 p.m., and Friday, January 11, 2013, from noon-8 p.m. at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with a Henry County firefighter memorial service at 7 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father Robert Kill officiating. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
