HOLGATE -- Ronald Parker Osborn, 82, of Holgate, died at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center on Monday evening, January 7, 2013.
His Legacy... He was born July 31, 1930, to Parker John and Maud (Damon) Osborn in Holgate. He enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps his senior year of high school. He was honorably discharged on October 3, 1953. Upon his return to Henry County, he began working for the railroad. He worked for Tenzer Lumber Company for 20 years, Vic Cohrs Construction for four years and Mel Lanzer Company for 19 years. On June 8, 1957, he married Virginia Bauer in Emanuels Christian Church, New Bavaria. Ron enjoyed camping, traveling and woodworking. Ron was a member and commander of the William F. Helmke American Legion Post 340 and life member of VFW Post 8847. He was a member of Emanuels Christian Church, New Bavaria, and deacon, elder and trustee.
His Family... He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, of 55 years; sons, Michael (Vanessa) Osborn, Holgate, and Gary (Joyce) Osborn, Lockport N.Y.; daughter, Julie (Nick) Giesige, Holgate; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl, Aaron Elzy, William and Gene; sisters, Zora Marie Wilkens and Babe Mansfield; and son, Jeffrey.
His Funeral Farewell... Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. in the Zachrich Funeral Home, Holgate, and one hour before the service at church. The celebration of Ron's life will be in Emanuels Christian Church on Friday, January 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Ed Briggeman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by joint Holgate and New Bavaria veterans posts.
