Hope Smith

ANTWERP -- Hope Eleanor Smith, 96, of Antwerp, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at her residence.

Hope was born in Defiance County, Ohio, on August 18, 1916, a daughter of the late Mary Edna (Core) and Jesse Ellsworth Revert. She was a 1934 graduate of Mark Center High School and earned a degree from International Business College. On August 9, 1940, Hope married Max Arthur Smith in Wauseon, Ohio. The couple celebrated 71 years of marriage on August 9, 2011. Max passed away on February 17, 2012.

Hope was a bookkeeper at L. Smith & Son Inc. from 1937 until the couple's retirement in 1983. Max and Hope wintered in Lakeland, Florida, for 16 years, where they enjoyed socializing with their friends and attending Big Band concerts. Hope loved to spend time with her family, to read and to travel. She was also an avid basketball and football fan. She was a member of Antwerp United Methodist Church.

Hope will be sadly missed by her daughter, Carol (John) Chilcote of Antwerp; son, Rob (Jennifer) Smith of Melbourne, Ky.; grandsons, Scott (Nadine) Cottrell of Falls Church, Va., and Brad Smith of Lexington, Ky.; and a special cousin, Marie Coy of Hicksville.

Private services will be held at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, followed by interment in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
