SHERWOOD -- Carol E. Zartman, 75, of Sherwood, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012, at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital, Defiance, after a sudden illness.

Carol was born July 10, 1937, in Flatrock Township, Henry County, Ohio, to the late Harvey and Luella (Tietje) Rohrs. Carol was a 1955 graduate of Florida High School. She married Lawrence W. "Hoot" Zartman on August 26, 1962, in Florida, Ohio. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved to care for her family. Prior to her marriage, Carol was a bookkeeper for Landmark in Defiance. She was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church. Carol was an active volunteer, where she served as a RSVP volunteer at the Defiance Senior Center, the Good Sam Adult Program and at the former Sherwood Elementary School, where she would tutor the kindergarten class. Carol was also a former den mother for the Sherwood Cub Scouts.

Surviving are her husband, Larry of Sherwood; three sons, Tim (Stephanie) Zartman of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Ronald (Sue) Zartman of Cecil, Ohio, and Bruce (Winje) Zartman of Auburn, Alabama; five grandchildren, Bridgette and Amber Zartman, Megan and Brenna Zartman and Josh Zartman; one great-grandson, Jayson Zartman; as well as one brother, Norman (Velma) Rohrs of Holgate, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Melvin Rohrs.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood. Funeral services for Carol will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in the Sherwood United Methodist Church, 512 North Harrison Street, Sherwood, with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
