DURAND, Mich. -- Chuck C. Allen, 89, of Durand, formerly of Napoleon, passed away from complications of congestive heart failure and stroke on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at The Lodge of Durand.
He was born June 16, 1923, in Midian, Kansas, the son of Roscoe and Gertrude (Kiefer) Allen. Chuck was a civilian working for the government as a machinist in Honolulu, Hawaii, during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Tecumseh Products Company as a senior project engineer for 26 years.
Chuck is survived by daughters, Carol (Bob) Smith and Sue (Tom) Popma; former spouse, Mary Margaret Schwab-Allen; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Dorothy V. Allen; son, Jack Allen; both of his parents; and two sisters, Mildred Allen and Edras Gessner.
A memorial service will take place on December 27, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at the Lodge of Durand, 8700 Monroe Road, Durand, Mich. Arrangements are through Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel.
Memorial contributions in Chuck's name may be made to the family for use toward purchasing an awning for The Lodge of Durand. Chuck had recently adopted this project to benefit his fellow residents and to show his appreciation for the kindness and care he received there.
