OAKWOOD -- Bernard L. English Sr., 91, of Oakwood, died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
He was born December 1, 1921, in Ashtabula County, to the late Roy and Minnie Alva (Hoover) English. On April 28, 1943, he married Rosa Fern Etter. She died March 10, 2010.
He is survived by his children, Sheryl English of Oakwood, Bernard English Jr. of Oakwood, and Pamela (Lewis) Renollet of Pemberville; seven grandchildren, Adam English, Desirae Hagerman, Jillian Renollet, Hannah Renollet, Michelle Renollet, Madison Renollet and Cora Renollet; and seven great-grandchildren, Tatem, Hailey and Olivia Stallard, Isaac and Raymond Hagerman, and Cole and Claire English.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Cloyd, Floyd, Raymond "Colonel," Donald, and Gerald English; and a sister, Evelyn Butler.
Bernard was retired from Zeller Corporation in Defiance and was a farmer. He was a World War II veteran of the Army infantry and a disabled American veteran. He was a graduate of officer training school in Fort Benning, Ga.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood, with military rites by the Oakwood American Legion and Paulding VFW. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
