Douglas K. Eshem Sr., 81, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on February 23, 1931, the son of the late Robert and Mildred (Hanes) Eshem. Doug worked at Johns Manville in Defiance for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a life member of the Defiance Eagles, life member of VFW Post 3360, and a member of the AMVETS Post 1991. He was a 1949 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

He married Betty Adkins Eshem on Dec. 31, 1954, and she died May 28, 2011.

Surviving are daughters, Judy (Michael) Sholl of Defiance, Marilyn Clay of Defiance, Janet Showman of Defiance and Barbara (Randy) Clady of Defiance; sister, Sharon Lee of Portsmouth; brothers, Herman (Helen) Eshem of Portsmouth and Raymond (Sylvia) Eshem of Portsmouth; many grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; sons, Douglas Jr. and Donald; a great-granddaughter; and several brothers and sisters.

Services will be at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St., Defiance, at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24. Visitation is Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Lawson-Roessner. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, where VFW Post 3360 will conduct honorary military rites.
