NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) -- The historic Maid of the Mist tour boats to Niagara Falls will launch from both Canada and the United States once again this year.
The Maid of the Mist had said the 2012 tourist season was in doubt following a decision by Canada to give the contract to a new operator beginning in 2014.
But on Tuesday, company officials said the tours will go forward. The season opens April 12.
The Maid of the Mist has operated the sightseeing boats to the base of the falls since 1846, with passengers boarding from docks on both the Ontario and New York shores.
The Niagara Parks Commission has chosen Hornblower Canada to operate the Canadian tours in the future, while the Maid of the Mist still holds the New York contract.
