Former Maysville editor Caproni dies

MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The one-time editor of The Ledger Independent, Laurnie Caproni, has died. He was 76.

Caproni served as editor from 1968 when The Daily Independent and the Public Ledger were merged until his retirement in 1986. The Ledger Independent (http://bit.ly/WRbDef ) reported that Caproni started as a sportswriter and general assignment reporter for The Daily Independent and later worked as a columnist and advisor at the paper.

For several years, the Capronis lived in Gadsden, Ala., and wrote for for Miss Martha's Originals, writing and editing a company newsletter that was distributed worldwide.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Caproni is survived by his wife, Carolyn Helderman Striplin, seven children, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
