Patrol: Up to 10 semis, 1 dead in NW Ohio pileup

CECIL, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities in northwest Ohio say as many as 10 tractor-trailers are involved in a pileup on a foggy highway that has left one person dead near the Indiana-Ohio state line.

A dispatcher at the State Highway Patrol says an unknown number of cars also were involved in the pileup on U.S. 24 Tuesday morning around 8 a.m.

The highway that links Toledo with Fort Wayne, Ind., has been shut down in both directions.

Authorities say a tanker truck caught up in the crash is leaking ethanol along the highway. The patrol says the tanker was one at least eight trucks involved.

A driver who was uninjured tells The Crescent-News in nearby Defiance that he "drove into a wall of fog."
