Ohio reservists receive cultural lesson at mosque

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Army reservists who serve as liaisons with local residents when overseas got a cultural lesson closer to home when visiting one of Ohio's largest mosques.

Capt. Patrick Seaman of B Company, 412th Civil Affairs Battalion says no amount of training can replace the real-world experience of talking to and gaining the trust of people from different backgrounds.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Monday that about 30 soldiers visited the Noor Islamic Cultural Center in Hilliard in suburban Columbus on Sunday to visit with people who attend the mosque and eat traditional Indian and Middle Eastern foods.

Asim Haque (ah-SEEM' hak), a member of the center's board of directors, says part of the mosque's mission is to serve as a clearinghouse for information about Islam.
