MIAMI (AP) -- A memorial service will be held in Miami for an Ohio man who died from gunshot wounds he suffered during a robbery in Haiti where he was working on an orphanage.
The service for 50-year-old David Bompart of Columbis, Ohio, will be held Sunday at the Tina Hills Pavillion in Bayfront Park. His wife posted on their blog that additional memorials will also be held in Haiti, Ohio and his native Trinidad and Tabago.
Bompart died Thursday at a Miami hospital where he had been airlifted after the Jan. 24 shooting.
Bompart was helping to build the Project Medishare trauma center. He also began an orphanage building project through Eyes Wide Open International, a charity the Bomparts' started to help widows and orphans.
