COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The Columbus Crew has signed goalkeeper Daniel Withrow, its 28th overall pick in the second round of the draft.
The move was announced on Thursday, two days before the club plays its second game of the season at Vancouver on Saturday.
Withrow was the 2012 Conference USA co-player of the year after recording nine shutouts in his senior season at Marshall. In 67 appearances in net over four years, Withrow recorded 21 shutouts. The 22-year-old was selected to the All-Conference USA First Team three times, winning the conference's defender of the year Award in 2010.
The Rochester Hills, Mich., native was with the Crew throughout preseason camp in Brandenton, Fla., and made three appearances in two matches and one scrimmage.
