MINSK, Belarus (AP) -- American Joshua Farris won the short program Thursday in the world junior figure skating championships, and China's Sui Wenjing and Han Cong took their third straight pairs title.

The 16-year-old Farris, from Colorado Springs, Colo., did a triple flip-triple toe, triple lutz and three spins to score 75.43 points.

"This was probably my best all year and I couldn't ask for more," Farris said.

China's Yan Han was second at 74.88, followed by Denis Ten of Kazakhstan was third.

In the pairs, Han stumbled on the triple toe-double toe combination, the Four Continents' strong free skate to "The Soul of Flamenco" was still good enough to top the field.

"We did well but we didn't do our best, I was a little nervous," Han said. "I think Belarus is our lucky place because we were able to win junior worlds here for the third time."

China's Yu Xiaoya and Jin Yang were second, followed by Russia's Vasilisa Davankova and Andrei Deputat.
