Diana's Kensington Palace home reopens to public

LONDON (AP) -- The London home of Queen Victoria and Princess Diana is reopening to the public after a major makeover.

Kensington Palace has been redesigned to give visitors a sense of what it is like to live in a centuries-old building that has witnessed both affairs of state and affairs of the heart.

The displays include hundreds of personal items, from Victoria's baby shoes to Diana's little black dress.

Kensington Palace also has a private wing that is home to several members of the royal family. Prince William and his wife the Duchess of Cambridge are due to move in next year.

Journalists were given a tour of the palace on Tuesday. It reopens to the public next week, in time for a busy tourist season that includes the queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the Olympics.
